What does being an active member mean?
Being an active member of a prestigious Academy means acquiring professional recognition from colleagues in dentistry. It means joining an exclusive group which is recognized by the Italian and international world of dentistry and acquiring a high professional level.
How does one become an active member?
The Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry has about 87 active members out of a total number of about 1500 ordinary members. To become an active member, it is necessary to submit to a special committee the treatments which 3 patients underwent. The cases should be particularly complex and the documentation must be very detailed: photos before treatment with different projections of the patient’s mouth, photos of the intermediate steps of the planned treatment, after photos with the final results obtained. X-rays before and after treatment must also be included to show the pathologies present and document the proper execution of the treatment. In addition to the photos and x-rays, it is necessary to include the diagnosis and description of the treatment proposed to the patient to solve the dental problems both from a functional and aesthetic point of view. If the committee finds that the result is not satisfactory or that the treatments were not carried out according to proper procedure, the candidate is considered unsuitable. In this case, the dentist may replace the case that the committee considered unsatisfactory, or include new documentation if the treatment is believed to be correct but the presentation was not sufficiently detailed. The Committee responsible for the acceptance of new active members is composed of 5 active members which are voted by the assembly of active members.
